Examples of Competent Playing
Example 1
These recordings are an excellent example of the correct sound production and knowledge of all MEMs.
• Good sound production — flexible wrists and melodious, tenacious and sensitive fingertips that play sounds, skills of sound movement, expressive intonation with weight — all of this is the foundation of singing on the instrument.
• Excellent sense of shades of harmony, sound texture, precise sense of dynamics and balance.
• Accurate knowledge of the limits of motives, phrases and form.
• Accurate sense of meter.
• Fluency in musical speech, thanks to which all the nuances of the emotional image, phrasing and form are expressed in relief.
Example 2
All MEMs — sound timbre, sound movement, intonation and musical speech, harmony, dynamics, balance, sound texture, pedal and articulations, phrasing, form, meter and thought out emotional image — are performed on the masterly level and brought to perfection.
Example 3 Another example of the excellent control of sound. Harmonic ear, dynamics and balance are in a very fine ratio. Free intonation and skills of passing weight to the instrument allows this pianist to perform phrasing with flexibility and relief.
Example 4 This pianist has an innate sense of sound movement, free intonation of sounds with weight, a fine sense of musical speech, sense of phrasing and form.
She makes it all intuitively and ingenious.
However, in later video recordings an incompetent teacher’s hand can be traced. We can see a lot of unnecessary movements of hands and body that are not associated with MEMs.
For comparison, a few example of playing without intonation and weight:

As a result — playing without weight, playing «out of the piano,» but not «into the piano». Sense of weight is completely absent.
Sounds aren’t sung with intonation and weight, so hands, shoulders and back gradually begin to strain. Fingers become «woody», sounds get lost. The pianist tries to free his hands in a slow down before a reprise, but it’s still not enough.
Example 2
Another example of incorrect detached sitting, absence of intonation. As a result — playing without weight, playing «into the floor» and not «into the piano.» All weight stays in the back.
Sounds aren’t sung with intonation and weight, so wrists start straining, fingers no longer move. By the end of the etude playing becomes a hard thing to do. The pianist tries to free her hands, but finishes playing already on the strength of her will. But the appearance of a successful performance remains due to clean playing.
