Why such course appeared for the first time:
1. The vast number of teach-yourself books and teaching aids don’t teach to play, they teach to read notes. Open any teach-yourself book and you’ll see an ocean of information. It seems that you cannot learn to play piano without it. Unfortunately, the vast number of teach-yourself books contains a bunch of unnecessary knowledge for playing piano. Often this amount of information given on the first stage of learning scares away, blocks all desire to begin learning. A teach-yourself book becomes a torture-yourself book. Often authors justify this amount of information by promising to teach you to improvise or compose music. But it’s impossible to learn to improvise or compose music well if you don’t possess the correct sound production, if you haven’t mastered the skills of correct and fine playing on a few learned pieces. Therefore, the beginning students shouldn’t be given so much knowledge right away.
After learning all the knowledge described in teach-yourself books in such a great detail, you won’t be able to learn to play the instrument because it’s not taught how to play correctly in teach-yourself books. You’ll only be able to reproduce your knowledge of reading notes. This is the only pleasure you’ll get from playing. You won’t be able to begin playing more complex pieces, feel comfort, pleasure and satisfaction from playing. You won’t be able to develop your knowledge and skills.
“The Basic Course” doesn’t have any excess theoretical knowledge that will scare you away. It only has the most necessary knowledge to begin playing on the instrument. All information is given systemically, by lessons.
2. The vast number of teach-yourself books is presented either as a book or a video program. Each of the variants separately doesn’t give the full picture of training. While using the text to describe how to play correctly, it’s often desirable to also see how to play correctly. And the video alone doesn’t show the exact picture of what to do. As it is often desirable to read it in the form of summary of what’s going on in the video.
“The Basic Course” is released in the text format with graphic illustrations and 69 complete video-illustrations.
3. No teach-yourself book teaches the correct sound production, correct sitting position and correct hand position. If a teach-yourself book has some information about it, then it’s presented as a collection of correct theoretical information about how to play correctly. But this theory doesn’t work in practice: a valuable indication is given on how to play on the instrument, but the fact that this indication has a million of variants of performing is hushed up. In the end, you’ll theoretically know how not to play, but still you won’t feel how to play correctly. There’s a lot of such theoretical knowledge online about how to play and how not to play piano.
For the first time the correct sound production is explained systemically in “The Basic Course”. This knowledge is tested over 10 years by my performing practice and lessons with students.
4. In each teach-yourself book you’ll find a large quantity of small pieces, but in none of them you’ll find an exact and systemic analysis and guide for action. In the end, after passing such course, you won’t be able to beautifully and comfortably play even one small piece.
“The Basic Course” has two pieces clearly analyzed stage-by-stage. And the result of training with this course is competent playing of these two pieces with two hands with correct sound production.
5. No teach-yourself book gives an opportunity to study from zero to professional level.
I designed a systemic training program. It has three stages of training. In the first stage (“The Basic Course”) you’ll master the correct sound production and basic musical means of expression. In the second stage (“The Advanced Course”) you’ll master new interesting musical means of expression. In the third stage (“The Final Course”) you’ll consolidate all knowledge acquired earlier and master the last musical means of expression, which will allow you to master professional piano playing.
6. No teach-yourself book gives a repertoire of pieces, which could suite your level of knowledge, abilities and skills.
After passing each stage you’ll be able to purchase scores of beautiful pieces specifically selected by complexity for each stage. Each new piece is analyzed in details — a clear guide for action is given in the scores. Each score is given in two variants — the complete analysis and do-it-yourself analysis. You’ll have a choice what scores to use — with hints or without.
